John Davidson NPC Bodybuilding

1. After you competed in the NPC Beach Bodies Classic what did you think of the experience?
It was my favorite contest ever. It was the day after my 50th birthday and possibly my swan song.(Although I say that all the time). I won the over 50 and was shocked to death to hear my name called out for 1st place in the open light heavies.I had myself in 3rd place.
2. Did you accomplish the goals you had set out for that prep?
One of them. I won my class which was a goal but I was off in my usual level of condition. I tried to pull a Kevin Levrone and went from a 165lb 5K runner to a 185 lb bodybuilder in 60 days. It was difficult for me to dial in under those circumstances. So I didn't have enough time to reach the level of conditioning I was aiming for. I'm comforted by the fact that even if I were at my best that the outcome would not have changed, I still would not have beaten the middle or heavyweight winner for the overall.

3. Please share a little about your competition history in overview and plans for the future?
I have been competing since 1984 . I won the overalls at the 1990 AAU Mr. Louisville, 2000 NABF Natural Florida, 2011 NPC Orlando Metropolitan, and 2012 NPC Ruby Classic. I have also won my class 16 times. Place dead last 5 times. My plans for the future are to rehab the injuries I have accumulated. I have been training hard for 37 years. I didn't train smart all of those years.I trained way too heavy, through too many injuries and never gave my body a break.Competed way too often. My goal is to continue to weight train in such a way as to not aggravate my injuries, continue running, walk around in near contest shape and competing in 5K races At age 59 I plan on having a full cardiac workup and if everything is good take a full year to put some size back on and try and win the over 60 Florida.

4. What would you say is your biggest source of inspiration and motivation?
I have no source of inspiration. I run, bike, weight train and eat clean because I don't know what else to do.

5. Plans to do any specific shows in 2017? No, I'm living vicariously through the people I prep.

6. What is the best way for fans to follow you?
I offer a free online prep coaching service. When I got started nobody ever charged a dime to help me get ready for a show and I'm returning the love. There are a lot of clowns masquerading as prep coaches encouraging their clients to do things that risk their health unnecessarily. I want to help put a stop to that. I'm a nurse and some of the protocols that they have their clients on has me shaking my head. My approach is radically different and completely free of bro science.
